A card jam in a FARGO DTC4500e card printer can be frustrating, but it’s usually easy to resolve.
Please follow these steps:
1. Turn Off the Printer
- Power down the printer and unplug it to prevent any accidental damage.
2. Open the Printer Cover
- Lift the top cover of the printer to access the card path.
3. Remove the Ribbon & Printhead
- Take out the ribbon cartridge and carefully lift the printhead if necessary (some models have a release latch).
4. Locate the Jammed Card
- Look for the stuck card inside the feed path, roller area, or near the output hopper.
5. Gently Remove the Card
- If it’s visible, carefully pull the card out using your fingers or a soft, non-metallic tool. Avoid using excessive force.
6. Check the Rollers & Clean Them
- If the card is stuck in the rollers, gently rotate them to free it.
- Clean the rollers with an isopropyl alcohol wipe or a cleaning card to prevent future jams.
7. Reassemble & Test
- Reinsert the ribbon and printhead.
- Close the cover, power on the printer, and run a test print.
8. Prevent Future Jams
- Use high-quality, clean cards (dust or dirt can cause jams).
- Regularly clean the printer (especially the rollers).
- Avoid overloading the input hopper.
